If you strictly add informational material without recommending products or services, you can still earn on ads on your blog. Personally, I feel that if you can work in a link to a product or service that your readers may be interested in using, do it and do it often.

You also should try to add at least 5 good backlinks to each post that you are making. For instance, start a free blog within the same niche and write similar articles in it that will link to each of your posts. Make these links just one-way in order to keep them powerful with respect to the search engines.
